Crochet hats

Its that time again to wear our stylish hats. There are so many nice yarns to choose from.

My latest crochet project that I have just finished is the Driftwood Cap shown below. I so love this pattern by Ellen Gormley and saw it in the Interweave crochet magazine of Autumn 2008.

The pattern uses a 5.5mm hook but I prefer using the 6 mm. It uses the FPdc crochet stitches. 

I have also used this pattern using a size 8mm crochet hook and it comes out as a beautiful slouch beret.

I always add a button on top of my hats as my signature :)

And on this one I added a crochet flower at the side.

Part 2: Overwintering my Fuchsias

The basket of fuchsias above is La Campenella. I shall wrap up the basket with horticultural fleece then put it in a box and cover with newspaper.

Its certainly much colder now and I think it is now time to prune back the last of the summer Fuchsias and wrap up with newspaper.

I will leave them wrapped up until the Springtime. I have also done this with some geraniums.

Progress update of Olivia Hat

Over the weekend I have been working away at my latest project. It is well on the way to completion.

For this Olivia hat patter, I am using King Cole Merino Superwash DK. This is such a nice pattern to knit and comes up like a basket weave. I have chosen a nice shade of green button to compliment the yarn. I am using a circular needle because I find it easier to work with but you could easily use regular needles if you want.

Olivia Knitted Beret in progress

I was asked by a friend to knit this hat for her. I am knitting with King Cole King Cole Merino Blend Double Knitting Yarn but the suggested yarn on the pattern is Manos de Uruguay (see photos above from my first go at this pattern). Its knitting up good and is a lovely basket weave pattern.

I am also going to crochet a hat for her and I have got some great buttons for each of them.

I shall update with new photos as they progress.

In Progress: Boneyard Shawl

I first saw this Noro yarn when in York, England earlier this year as I walked up the Shambles ( http://www.ramshambles.co.uk) but I resisted temptation.

I was in North Carolina, USA recently and was taken to Apex with a friend. We visited a few yarn shops (http://downtownknitsapex.blogspot.com) and I found the same Noro yarn in one of them. This time I did not resist temptation :)

I shall update my blog with fresh photos as the shawl gets bigger.

A bit further on ,to start with I used the 5mm circular needle and thought it was coming out to tight must be the way I knit so I am now using 8mm.

Our trip to Salzburg

We are recently back from a week's holiday in Salzburg, Austria which was just perfect. The weather was very good to us.

Countryside in Austria is truly amazing.

We stayed in a wonderful hotel called Bloberger Hof, on the outskirts of Salzburg (nice and peaceful away from the centre). The breakfast was excellent. You can check it out here: www.blobergerhof.at

We flew into Munich and then took the train to Salzburg. We used the local bus to get us about and then had a hired car for the rest of the week. It enabled us to see more further away and was well worth doing. We saw a lot in a week.

We drove to Kitzbühel (where the downhill skiing takes place every year) and took the cable car up the Kitzbüheler Horn mountain. The alpine garden was wonderful to see. I have attached some photos above.

I will share some more photos from the Salzburg area in future posts.

My woodland patch

I have made an area under my shrubs with hellebores and hardy cyclamen ,they are now all starting to show signs of life.

Along the edge heaucheras are planted out and come spring there will be a riot of colour.

I would love a carpet of cyclamen but they do take time to get established.

When the hellebores start to bud I shall post some photos.

I also have trilliums planted.
