A day weeding in the walled garden today at Glamis Castle

Here we are now at the end of May and we can now start to see plants growing that we have planted. We’ve had a lot of cold days so far but inside the walled garden it has a micro-climate of it’s own and has been a pleasure to be working in.

Since February it has been only Karen and I doing volunteer gardening but today we had our 3rd volunteer start. I’m sure she’s going to be a big help to us.

We are now starting to get a lot of nice visitors chatting to us in the garden and even some repeat visitors in the short time that we have been there.

Look what I saw on route up to the walled garden this morning, they are so beautiful.

There is certainly going to be a large crop of apples and us the volunteers shall be picking the apples so no waste of spillage on ground!

A day in the walled garden at Glamis

Here we are in mid May and finally the weather is improving. The morning was still a bit chilly but when you are working hard in the walled garden you don't  really feel the cold too much.

But by afternoon the sun was out and very warm which also makes the weeds grow... So today we spent the morning weeding and moving around plants and in afternoon we moved the plants into the cold frame.

We still need taller plants for the back of the herbaceous border but we can now start to see all our hard work take shape.

So if you are planning a trip over the summer to Glamis Castle, do pop in and see Karen and I if we are in the garden. We usually work there on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Things are starting to come alive in my garden after such a long winter.

Sarah Bernhardt never bloomed in 2012 for me but looks as if she will soon open.

Enicanthus is new to my garden. I bought her just before the Autumn so have seen the amazing colour of the foliage.

DSC04457

This is the fantastic soil my Mahonia grows in so I am going to under plant with Spring bulbs in the Autumn.

Nancy Evans  will soon be bursting into full bloom. This one is in my back garden and I also have one in the front garden. I wonder which shall open 1st…
